  Bentonite is a soft, porous and easily shaped, open rock consisting of clay minerals (mainly montmorillonite) with very small crystals formed by the chemical decomposition or degradation of volcanic ash, tuff and lava rich in aluminum and magnesium and predominantly in colloidal silica structure.
